I got prices. A 6s with an automatic, Luxury Package, Sport Package, Bose Audio, Autodim/Compass/Homelink mirror, Sport grille, Side Airbags, and Moonroof is over $1,500 less than an Altima 2.5 S automatic with just the SL package. I was just along to help someone else. The price of the 6s is lower than Edmunds TMV by a decent amount.

Nissan dealers aren't willing to deal. The Mazda guy showed us the actual invoice prices which I checked against what I found online. They were exactly the same. From there, we added up the invoice, threw a fixed amount on top of that and took off the $1,500 off. No bullshiting around. The Nissan guy did that shit where he heads back to his manager for 15 minutes. He didn't want to sell anything not on his lot. He was actually trying to talk you out of options (because they weren't out there). I had to twist his arm to get me a price for something not on his lot. All the Nissan dealers were like this. They completely blow you off. At least two Mazda dealers we more than wiling to sell a car.

When the time comes to get my own car, I am going to be far more likely to got back to the same Mazda place and get my own 3 hatch. I've personally been blown off by all Nissan dealers as of late. Nissan dealers have become just like Toyota and Honda ones. They don't give a shit about making a sale because they think if they don't sell you the car there's 50 others that will buy it for that price. I don't play that game.

I had the same experience with Mazda they were very accomidating, I got my 6s for under the invoice price, and they searched for the exact car I wanted, found it in NJ and transported it in two days!

Nissan's new option packages really piss me off too. They are all stacking. You want traction control? You need to get a moonroof. Want this? You need that. The price quickly inflates just like a Toyota.

I like the fact you can build a Mazda almost exactly the way you want it. The only downside of this is finding a specific model out there equipped the way you want it is harder. The Mazda guys said there is no problem ordering it from the factory the way you want it in about 8 to 10 weeks max. Nissan says when it comes up, it comes up... Maybe four months, maybe.

Also, if you check the price of a single option on the 6 vs. the Altima, you'll see it's always a lot more expensive on the Nissan. The 6 comes with traction control and ABS standard, both of which (especially ABS) I think should be on most cars standard.

One more thing. What's with Nissan putting ugly splash guards on every car? Dealers want $120 for these horrible tumors. Tacked on accessories to jack up the price is unappreciated.

Nissan doesn't make deals because they don't have to.

Like you said, there are 50 other people in line to buy the car.

You can bet those 50 other people aren't people like me though. Once you have Nissan being supported by soccer moms and rich kid riceboys they will change their products to suit those types of people.

    Profit doesn't come from enthusiasts.

The only reason Mazda can pull it off is because they have Ford to sell all the boring stuff for them.

    Mazda is the new Pontiac.

I 100% agree with you. I was looking at the exact same cars and was ready to go buy the mazda6s with those exact same options. I had test driven an 05 altima. The car was very solid, but the steering was far overboosted at high speeds. That alone sent me in the direction of mazda. However, my parents felt otherwise and let me buy my dad's maxima off of him, so now I have got the compromise between both cars :)

Good luck if you are buying a new car.

I really, really, really want a Mazda 6 s as my first car.

I jacked the car up all the way online just for shits, and then I decided to take a look at the Altima since it was nice, and the thing was still more expensive at base price than my jacked up Mazda s. :ugh:

    Mazda = hotness

I also don't get the Ford comparisons. Maybe it resembles one of their models, but atleast it doesn't break as easily. Ford cars = trash. They might own a part of Mazda, but I highly doubt they effect it that much.

false - Mazda has become partially owned by Ford silly... Mazda does their own engineering, and may borrow some common parts to keep costs lower.
