Picked up a used savage 10fp in 308 for $360 at gander. Free floated, pillar bedding, 2# adjustable trigger, bull barrel...I didn't realize that the savage was so nice.

Bushnell banner 6-18x on the way for $109. :wiggle: How'd I do?

Why buy a quality bolt gun, and then shoot milsurp/crap through it?

Buy something good and get the most out of your rifle.

the rifling on that barrel is designed to have 168 grain bullets put through it. If you shoot the right ammo through it it'll be more accurate than a remington 700

meh...mostly because I'm a cheap bastard...I'll probably shoot a mix of stuff, but I need to get a big block of cheap ammo just to throw down range.

that might sound like a good idea, but if you stick with one type of ammo and sight it in for that ammo it'll shoot very consistently.

The rifling isn't designed specifically for 168 grain or any specific weight, 1-10 is pretty much good for anything from 150's to 180's, depending on the bullets length. 1-12 is typically considered best if you're going to shoot just 168's.

Those aren't the same, the model on Impact Guns seems to be last years version. The package on Savages website now comes with an H-S Precision stock and the accutrigger, which would probably account for the price increase. I'd like to see what they actually sell for since, retail is always high.

meh, pretty good, but no LTR ...I'd reccomend a better scope, but it depends on what you'll be using it for.

so basically a rifle with the proper ammo will shoot better than a rifle with shit ammo?
 never thought different ammunition would have different characteristics.

it isn't that far off. we were shooting federal match and Black Hills Match and before re sighting in the gun it was about 1/2" to 1" off the mark. It isn't too much though.

yeah, but that 1/2" or 1" difference isn't a constant, even with bullets that weigh the same.

it was thinly veiled sarcasm :hsugh:

my M1A sighted in on federal gold match hit 8" to the right when shooting winchester silvertips.

I may be mistaken, but don't you have a Simmons/Tasco/Something cheap on your LTR?

Gander pisses me off. Everything is over priced like crazy...but once in a great while you come back with a steal. And that's what keeps me coming back

Exactly. The problem I have is every time I go in, there is one item that is a steal. I almost bought a used taurus 24/7 the other day just because it was $260.

If your going to pay 1k you might as well get the mcmillian http://www.impactguns.com/store/011356010735.html
