I lost the front bumper on my 96 grand cherokee yesterday and it's pretty wasted. I'd rather not buy another one if I don't absolutely have to. I've seen other zj's without a front bumper and the aesthetics of a lack of a bumper cover don't bother me. Does anyone have any idea of the legality of doing something like this?

depends on your state motor codes. I'm fairly certain it's a no-no pretty much everywhere, however.

There's little aftermarket support for the grand cherokee, and anything available is expensive and heavy. The jeep also spends 95 percent of the time on road so there's no need for a big winch bumper. I just want to justify not having to put the stock bumper cover back on pretty much.

i'd say find some one to make you a custom one that's what i had done to my xj and to be honest best thing cuz as i used it more more for wheeling i was able to upgrade it with out worrying too much

Yeah...but he's right, there isn't a whole lot available for the ZJ.

ARB makes one. Kevin's Offroad does too, but both are heavy and built for wheeling.

The problem is, what if you fuck up and hit someone? Without a bumper to lock your two cars together on impact, you're going to ride straight up his ass and your frame will go through his windshield. Hell, you could take the top of his car off. Do you really want to drive around knowing you could cut someone's head off if you get into an accident?

You MUST drive with a front bumper. You have a few options. A new MOPAR one (expensive), a used one (may be good, could have broken holes but will still work), and a reproduction one (a solid option).

Without a bumper your unibody will buckle like tin foil if you hit somthing. Spend $200 and properly fix your Jeep.
