I've been working on this blog project for about 6 months now, and I need some honest critiques on where the site needs improvement (not content, but everything else).

    How does header look?

What do you think of theme?

Do i need a professionally designed logo or header? (made this myself...)

Tips on gaining more traffic? (160 Rss subscribers, btw 40-60 UV daily)

Ad placement? (Good, terrible, what to change?)

anything you guys want to say about the site, let me know. Don't worry about content, I think it's good, but I'm always striving to improve.

i'd say move categories up above comments or make the comments into some sort of scrolling box to make it smaller a little bit. maybe you can turn it into a recent comments generator..wordpress might have all of these extensions.

i also always like buttons at the top..example: categories button on top, mouseover reveals subcategories

oh and can you tell me where you got your background? if it was from a website cus I'm looking for website backgrounds

    How it looks for me:

I think the top part is too big. I'd have the body (white section) go all the way to the top. Also, shrink the black wood above and below the logo some. Also either add more navigation buttons or space them out a little more.

The right side is blank, you should either allow the content to span the width of the body or have ads/something there.

    Just my 1 cent.

BTW: I think the logo looks good, no need to pay someone to do something else.

are you using IE? If so that's why right side looks empty. My site doesn't render well with IE, but it works with just about any other browser. I don't know what's going on with that.

it's not from a site, I found a woodgrain pattern on deviantart.com and asked the artist if I could render it and use it on my site... I desaturated it (black and white), and darkened it a bit to fit what I was looking for. What kind of background are you interested in? Maybe I could help you find/make one.

oh and my tip for traffic improvement would be article submissions and traffic trading with other blogs.

sorry that im kinda vague because i dont remember the big article directories at the moment, there's a couple that are big

also install the wordpress all-in-one seo pack, you can find it on the wordpress website under extensions :)

thanks guys. I've been putting some real work into it.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I went with 1&1 Web Hosting. It hasn't been slow for me though (got the tip to use them from my dad, he's an IT guy and he says that for the price, and my level of knowledge, they are fine...).

I've only heard bad things about 1&1 since I started with them. I haven't had any problems myself, and practically no down time, but everyone else seems to have a bad experience with them. If I start generating some real traffic I know I'll have to change.
