So today I decide to switch things up a little bit and do box squats. I got through a few sets... it wasn't really that bad at all so I kept adding weights.

So I start my 4th set, with 300 pounds. I sit down on the box, then can't get up. Think to myself, shit, well I'll just position myself differently so I can get up. Fail fail fail.. So I sit there for a few more seconds and remembered last time this happened (with normal squats though). I just leaned forward before and the weight rolled down my back. SO.. I go to lean forward, and instead of the weight rolling down my back it pushes me forward and smashes my face into my bench then it rolls down on top of my neck :noes::noes::noes:.

So for the first 2-3 seconds I accepted the fact I was going to die here. Then I mustered up the strength to try to survive. So I start trying to lift it up a bit so I can squeeze my head to the side. Note the bar is still parallel, lol. So after I try to move it up, the bar ends up falling to one side. Sounds better right? NOT. The collar on the bar ends up braking off and 150 pounds smashes the side of my face.

Eventually I get my head out, only with a hurt as fuck neck and a nasty ass scratch on my neck.

Heres a pic of ground zero

Last time I'm gonna push the limits alone in my home gym.

Cliffs: squats, fail, 300 pounds on neck, 150 pounds to face, expecting major neck problems in the next few days

    glad you're ok!

why on earth would you lean FORWARD to get the weight to fall backward?

honestly just fall back on your ass and the weight will do it's job falling behind you

or just dump it a few inches behind you and step forward

Closest thing for me was when I was doing DB press and my muscles failed in my left arm causing me to drop the weight on my face. That sucked.

Why not just let it fall back? Who cares about the weights and the house if it's life threatening?

Dude, that was the funniest thing I've ever read. Glad you didn't hurt yourself too bad. I've never failed like that, but I did once forget to load one side of the bar during a set of squats. Had 115lbs on one side and 45lbs on the other, with no safety clips. The second I picked up the wait I knew something was wrong, but it was too late. All the weights slid off the heavy side first, then the 45lbs slid of the lighter side. Full gym on a Monday night, too. This happened a few years ago and it still haunts me to this day.

    :dunno:

Figured... lean forward = downward slant for weight to fall down.

I was sitting down too while this was going on, btw.

The collar is so fucking weak that when I slide weights onto it, it moves off the threads it screws onto the bar with.

Need a new bar I think.
