I wish GM would keep Pontiac and give it four vehicles- A reskinned Camaro called a Firebird, A G8 GT badged as a Catalina and a G8 GXP badged as a Catalina SD, the Solstice, and a re-skinned Monaro coupe called the GTO. That would be a division with a tight brand focus, low sales, and low losses or low gains.

I know it's too much to ask, but wouldn't it be nice?

Ditch the firebird idea, and just go with the rest.

Fuck. I'd be happy if Pontiac was revived and consisted solely of the G8 GXP (and the other cool versions that other countries get, that we don't)

I'd keep the Firebird because A) heritage, B) model range gaps, and C) I've seen some good photoshops and body kit ideas that make it enough different from the Camaro to justify it.

All I really want is for GM to get it's shit together and demonstrate that it understands brand identity for anything other than Hummer.

Turning Pontiac into a "niche" producer focused on "fun to drive" performance vehicle while trading on it's heritage seems (imho) one of the better ways to do that.

But... we all have assholes too, and Pontiac is dead.

Wait you want them to re-employ the previous failed sales strategy? Rebadging the same vehicle over and over is about as good of an idea as putting diesel in a gasoline engine.

Not bringing back the Firebird was basically the death knell for the brand, it alone carried the spirit of Pontaic for 20 years by itself.

I should have made it clearer that (in my world) other than the Camaro/Firebird, POntiac would be the only brand with those models.

When the economy gets back where it should be, GM will bring Pontiac back. No wonder they didn't sell it like they did with Hummer and tried with Saturn.

Convince Holden to produce the Coupe 60, then bring it back as the GTO.

Please, that shit was a blip on the radar at best. The economy couldn't support the brand, and the economy hasn't gotten better since then....

The last "cool" car Olds made was the Cutlass 442. Past that, they made shitty, bland cars for old people. Pontiac actually had some good cars all throughout their history, the Firebird being the main one.

I come from the birthplace of Oldsmoble, and let me just tell you, that shit was FAR from just a blip on the radar. GM just fucked the division over in the late 80s and early 90s which lead to its death.

No need for a performance division. Mod the car yourself and fix whats wrong with it to your liking. Its more fun that way.

    1. Because they don't have a performance division.

    2. Because they need to prove they can show focus an a division besides hummer.

And? Just because the japanese don't do it doesn't mean it's not a good idea. GM badly needs something, and I think at least part of what they need is to differentiate themselves from the rising sun. They apparently can't build a small car, so why not focus on what they do well? Nothing the japs make even comes close to the Camaro, GTO, or G8 when it comes to bang for the buck. Trying to compete with someone when you're clearly outclassed is a losing proposition. Why not try competeing in an arena you can win in?
Scion, Lexus, and Infiniti prove you wrong. Try again.

Without a worthy car as a base upon which to modify/build a car, there's no way to make something to my liking.

The only automaker in the world with a focus is Ford.... so what's your point, again? :mamoru:
