You have to pay tax when purchasing AppleCare?

    Seems to be that way on all warranties. Not sure why but could be because they may include parts in addition to servicing.

    On the computers it comes with TechTool Pro. So they must count it as software.

    A crippled version of TechTool which is a shitty program to begin with. 99% of it's tests are totally useless. Bloatware for sure.

    Maybe it's changed, or it's different in Illinois? I don't remember paying tax for AppleCare on my MBP and I was all :wtf::eek5:

    That's a moot point, since services are taxable as well.

    Can't tell you if the version of TechTool they provide is different than the retail version, but you're right, TechTool is a piece of shit.

    It's different in different states (and even counties). Just like some states don't tax food and others do.

    The version included is a stripped down version of the normal app. They call it Tech Tool Deluxe. Basically a freebee they throw in to try to get people to upgrade to the full version.
