You have got to be joking me. BMW's reliability are crap.

My mom purchased a ceritfied used Z3 Roadster back in mid 2004. Since then, the car has only amassed a total of 15K miles, and has spent it's time in a covered garage.

She took it in to get the oil changed a week ago, and was told that the power steering hose was leaking, and the belts were cracked/worn and needed to be changed. :wtf:

So we checked with the BMW dealership, and the book charged for replacing a power steering hose is 400 dollars. Thankfully she purchased the extended warranty, so it will only be a 50 dollar charge. But shes still looking at 219 for belts.

I can't believe within only a year and a half, and 15K miles, repairs liket hat need to be made. :wtf: :wtf:

maybe it was beat on by the last owner. then again BMWs have never been known for superb reliability. and its a premium car, so the dealers charge for premium parts

Belts are belts - nothing said about the engine itself. A hose is also a hose - any kind of conditions could have caused that.
    Certified used is still used.
    What engine? 3.0 :x: ?

    Throw the car out.

After the hose, the next thing to go is the ENTIRE TRANSMISSION.

    Its posted on bimmerforums.

maybe 30 bucks and 2 hours of your time. NEVER pay a mechanic to change a fucking hose

The problem is that the car is a Z3. Should have got a Miata.

yeah, its not bmw's fault per se but the mechanic's who certified the car..should have been able to see the belts cracking. But they probably didnt have to say anything because they knew it would be under warranty

How the fuck are belts and hoses related to reliability? It sounds like it was stored improperly and not run regularly.

BMW's in general will last forever if they're taken care of.

not really. just have to depressurize/ let it completely drain out it and then when putting the new hose on, there's a bleeder adjustment valve that you use to remove the air out of the hose.

Ive done it before for brakes and PS and coolant. Easy as hell

parts are not the killer part. It's the labor. they charge like 100 an hour for damn labor. Parts for me have been just as much as japanese parts or even cheaper. Of course I order my bwm parts through pacific. they are 50% of the price I can get them here locally in Houston
