I'm sure some of you have a story to tell about the hardships of getting Anime before the introduction of the Fansubbers, Online Retailers, Anime Forums, yada yada yada, etc.

For example. Back in the early 90's the closest place I could rent Anime VHS' was San Francisco's Japan Video. We really didn't mind the forty minute drive each way. What mattered is that they had the newest releases of such classics as the Urusei Yatsura OVA's, Yamato Movies, Otaku No Video, Battle Angel: Alita, and Macross Plus. Mind you that not a LOT of these videos had subtitles, I guess this was during the time Manga Video and US Renditions were unknowns.

Now that I look back at it BOY was that ridiculous having to drive all the way there. Rent whatever they had and drive back through the lovely Bay Area traffic. Get home just in time to hook up both VHS' so we could have a copy of our own. Only to drive back the next day to return it JUST in time. Man, we have is prettttttttttttttty easy these days. :hsd:

I started watching back in 2002. It was somewhat tough back then because I didn't have BT and fansubs weren't of high quality. Nowadays I can usually get the best fansubs for whatever anime and have it downloaded within 48 hrs.

I never had it THAT hard with driving and such but I can remember TRYING to download episodes of DBZ and the like at 8hrs a pop, with a 2gb hard drive  I also had my uncle who was in San Diego at the time sending me stuff from the anime shop nearby his place, and actually getting vids, and gundam models straight from Japan when he was in Okinawa. Those were the good ol days. I still have the button up shirt of Kenshin that he sent me 4yrs b4 it aired on CN hahaha.

I feel ya baboymo. Tekkaman, Macross/robotech, tenchi muyo were some of the few tapes I had to scour heaven and hell to get. :hsd: made you appreciate the anime all the more though when you finally did get it and were able to watch it imho. There's so much anime out nowadays that I don't have time, nor the hdd space to watch/store it all.

Yup I remember. Back then All my video shop would have was these bootleg video tapes of Dragonball and Sailormoon. It was a miracle if they got anything else besides those.

What also got me into anime was years ago on the sci-fi channel and some other channel I cant remember they would show anime movies at rare times of night, like Vampire hunter D and stuff. Those were the good days.
