Anyone else following the Palin story? How can you go to jail for doing something that yahoo makes very simple to do? All these guys did, was use the retrieve password feature and now they are going to go to pound me in the ass prison. Why? Its not like they had to haxor that hard, all they needed was provide the dob, zipcode and country of residence and they got the password reset.

So does this mean you as a service have no responsibilities whatsoever to protect your customer? And you can completely ignore encryption since if you get hacked you can just sick the FBI on the hacker?

Just because it's easy doesn't mean it's okay.

How hard should they be punished? I don't think they should be punished too hard, but they did do wrong.

well a few OTers on here hacked my Yahoo email(Logik and Biowukaki), I didn't get the feds involved. I don't see why a person needs to go to pound me in the ass prison for being a douchebag.

Because it's illegal. Morals have no play in this.

Well the whole point of our justice system is that everyone gets the same fair shake. Sure the whole secret service thing is probably an add-on, but I'd think the FBI would take a report for regular people too(I hope)

And honestly looking back, I don't think those guys hacked my yahoo account...it just didn't fit together. i.e. they continued saying I don't have a startup when they would have seen related emails when they logged in

yeah but shouldn't Yahoo be somewhat responsible? Is a pre-set secret question really the best we can do? I mean look at Palin...her secret question was where did her and her husband met. The hacker chose after 5 tries "Wasilla High"...I would hardly call that a "secret" question. A secret question should be something that you can at least modify, instead of picking from 4 pre-set ones.

I don't really remember what my secret answer is  It definitely wasn't the car, since I made the account before I got it. I know the question has something to do with a pet...except I never had one. I guess I just picked a random question and then pressed a random set of letters. At least with Gmail you can write your own question so I wrote one that gives me hints to what the actual question is. This way if someone tries to reset my gmail account they won't even know what question the thing is asking since the hint question is in Russian. So someone would need to know Russian to figure out what question I'm asking, and then have to figure what I'm actually asking. Before they can even begin to start throwing answers at it.
