video quality depends on what youre streaming... i havent tried any of the hd downloads yet. out of the box codec support is just for stuff itunes reads, but you can add codecs that make it read just about anything.

Got mine in September, ripped my entire DVD collection onto it and just recently installed boxee and web surfer on it. Love it, with a newborn on your lap and nothing good on TV at 4am it's a lifesaver.

I love mine. upgrade the drive to Seagate 160. Perpendicular tech + high heat tolerances compared to the stock 40 that came with it. I've rented the 720p videos and they seem clear. I'll say this, if you don't have HDMI the picture won't look as good, cause component is worthless.

I guess the apple tv will play them if you put linux on it because it can utilize the graphic processor

Anyone hack their Apple TV to use a USB Drive AND XMBC? I think I'm gonna go this route for a HTPC instead of a Mac Mini (since apple didn't refresh that :madfawk: )

I know. I'm almost at the point where I'd buy a new mbp and turn my macbook into a htpc

Just hooked up a 1.66 Core Duo Mac Mini w/ 2GB ram up to my HDTV. Fucking LOVE Boxee so far! Streaming stuff off of my Mac Pro. Stutters with HD .mkv's but I think that'll change when I move it from wifi to an ethernet connection.

I would totally be buying a ATV if it could do this... Looks like a NONupdated Mac Mini is going to have to be it for now. Unless someone can figure out the ATV usb thing.

Well my old Core Duo mac mini handles 720P .mkv's over ethernet just fine w/ Boxee. 1080P files stutter a bit. Gonna save up for a T7600 CPU and then it'll be perfect. :hsd:
