I havent signed anything yet since i am still waiting on corrections
however I am requesting to get out in December 2008, just enough time to pin on CPT (O-3 for the navy, coast guard)

i met all of my initial goals. i put my personal objectives aside to
step in and support my country. Now I am finally on deployment after begging for the past 2.5 years

im going to miss some of it..probably alot of it once i no longer have to wear the uniform.

    :hsd:

    ib you'll be back

Congratulations. When I got out the first time, it was a bittersweet experience. One that I've often thought was both a very good decision as well as something I've regretted. If I had it all to do over again I would still have left active duty when I did, but I would have gone straight into the National Guard to finish working on my retirement and to "keep my hat in the ring" for deployments and national emergencies.

Good luck, Kaz, with whatever you do next. :)

Thanks for the well wishes :)

hopefully i can transition to a huge company like lockheed martin, boeing, or one of the oil companies. i have an engineering degree im itching to use again

any reason you would have chosen the guard over the reserves?
i was toying around with the idea, however timelines arent matching up. i have to submit my REFRAD paperwork almost 1 year out, however i cant talk about getting into the reserves until 90days from my ETS. maybe i could be an SF guy in the guard :ugh:

the guard has 2 SF groups now maybe even 3. I know there is one in maryland and I think Mass has one.

Guard has better benefits, and it is more combat-arms oriented. In my experience (I've been Army Reserves for one year, and Army NG for one year) the ARNG takes their training more seriously than the Reserves. That may be just due to the units I've been in, though. The Reserve unit I was in spent more time inventorying their crap than training with it. Both of the ARNG units I've been with have never given me a reason to be embarrassed to be ARNG. We do real-world training every time we drill.

i think i am already sold on ARNG lol. i still havent figured out why active duty personnel hate the reservists and guard so much. i am working with a reserve civil affairs unit and i love it. everyone is laid back and the group is very close. half of the time you cant tell there is a large rank difference between the members. the team leader is a major

Engineering group at any defense firm loves prior military.

They snatched me up even though I did not have my degree.
