    the 24-70 is a beast. that thing is just a tad above normal

    ummm.... jpg artifacts are caused by how the camera compresses and saves the image. I'm pretty sure noise is camera (sensor and ISO) related too.

    Noise is from the camera.
    JPG artifacts are from photoshop compression.

    my bad - I thought you were blaming the lens for the noise and jpg artifacts.

    although since jpg is a "lossy" format - it is sometimes possible to see jpg artifacts straight out of camera if your camera saves as jpg.

    agreed... I didnt mess with the raw files.
