It came in sooner than the 6-8 weeks that they originally quoted me. Actually did it in just a shade over 4 weeks! I'm mailing a copy off to century today so I can get access to their catalog. I have access to the S.O.G. catalog and I notice they have some Mosin M38's for around $90 and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of them. Anyone know a better place?

I'm thinking get a M44 to leave stock because it's a piece of history, it's too cheap not to buy, and it will go great with my authentic ushanka. I also want a M38 to put a synthetic stock and scope on for a cheap hunting rifle....

    your thoughts?

okay, yea, that would be cool... but it doesn't really take advantage of my new license, so I'll wait on that.

got any C&R input for me?

Do not sign the original but make copies and sign those. Fax them to dealers like Midway and Brownells for discounts.

yea, I know. The orig is locked away in a safe. I emailed like 20 distributors a pdf copy of it and so far most have accepted that. Century is the only one that is asking me to mail a copy (wont accept email/fax) so I'm gonna drop that in the mail today. Still waiting back on a response from midway. I already have an account with them, I just want to get the discount on there :x:

Midway is very quick about it. I faxed them my C&R on a Sunday night with an immediate email followup and it was up by next morning. Brownells took two days to set up my account. We found out that they actually set up my brothers account with the discount next day and I just had them transfer it.

I sent my email to brownells with a pdf of my license at 8:36am this morning and I received a reply saying they received it and everything was processed, my catalog was ordered, and they gave me my account # at 9:33am. So they did everything in under an hour. I'm impressed.

I emailed midway last night and still not even an acknowledgement of my request.

graf's ffl system is too complex for me to bother with

No prob, let me know if you get one. I'm considering one myself. I bought a brand new, unissued, SKS from them awhile ago for $125. Now you can't even get a beat up one for that. :hs: Sometimes C&R guns are ok investments.

Those M38s from Centerfire, aren't necessarily numbers matching, they're numbers re-matching, meaning that when they went in for re-arsenalling, they replaced the old, worn out parts with newer working parts, but the newer parts had their serial numbers worn down and re-numbered to match the host gun.

That said, it's still a pretty decent deal. I got a numbers re-matched M38, with M38 stock, 1943 or '44, and the accessory pack for $110 at a gunshow a few years ago. Gunshow purchases are cool, cause then you don't have to pay any tax. Dealer to dealer transfers don't require it.
