A friend of mine is on the fence about getting a camera. He can get either a Canon XT with the kit lens + 75-300mm lens, or he can get a Canon XTi with just the kit lens. Any suggestions?

if they are the same price, get the xti, the 75-300 stinks and they dont sell for much so its not worth trying to resell just the lens

If it matters, the XT extra lens is the Canon brand He told me the XT with lens is ~650 and the XTi is ~700

almost every walk in store has their mark up on prices and yes taht is a ripoff. 700 is way too much for this camera even with the lens included.

He needs to buy this from an online store to save any money. check one of the stickies in this forum for reliable businesses.

Dell has a coupon out right now 20% off all digital cameras.

I just told him that it's a rip off, but I guess his girlfriends father would be using his Circuit City credit card, so they can't use it anywhere else

buy the XT body only and then buy a nicer lens like the Sigma 17-70.

IDK man, I never use mine - its not wide enough. Hence the recommendation on the 28mm.

well for 80$ its def. the BEST bang for buck in terms of glass for canon. I'm starting to feel 'restricted' by it as well since its not wide enough on the 1.6 crop body. I'm probably going to purchase the 10-22mm in a month or two :noes:

yeah i love the 50 but its definitely not wide enough. 28 can be had for $400 35 can be had for $230.

when it comes to lens pricing though, theres no reason not to own a 501.8

You can get an XT and a Tamron 17-50 for $800...

Don't get the kit lens or the 75-300, he'll get better photos from a P&S.
