OMG, my Canon XTI is giving me err99 when i try to take pics w/ the onboard flash. Flash pops up, i hold down shutter button, it says "BUSY [lightning bolt]" then err99 comes up. I've tried changing lenses, replacing battery, turning on/off multiples times, nothing worked. :( What do I do :wtc:

The on camera flash on the XT* is worthless anyway. Consider it god keeping you from ruining photos.

It's possible the pin that tells the camera whether the flash is up or down is stuck.. especially if you have a reciever on the hot shoe constantly.

Someone posted here once how to unstick it, but I don't remember how. :hs:

Yes, that bad, that small, that worthless. If you want to use it, woohoo, but I'd much rather put on a flash that's worth a shit, even for fill. There's a reason the 5d and 1d lines don't have popup flashes.

    It's an easy fix.

Step 1. Put camera on bench
Step 2. Hit it with a sledge hammer. Once should suffice to crush that toy camera.
    Step 3. Buy a nikon.
    Step 4. Profit?

wow. sucky ass replies so far..

unfortunately err99 can mean anything on the newer cameras. usually problems with lens/body communications, but could be a dead flash circuit too. have you tried a different lens just for fun? removing the battery from your cam (and button cell if it has one)? have you ever used any non-canon external flashes? Some of them have high trigger voltages that can toast the flash circuitry.

I've tried everything, never had a external flash on it. I emailed Canon and it looks like my baby is going to be in Virginia for a week or two :(
