XT or XTi...ya ya the xti has 10.2 mp but the xt seems to be favored by cnet....what do you guys think....p.s. i'm a beginner at all of this, i've done a little bit of homework but i'd rather have you guy's opinion on them. p.s.s i'll be shooting outdoor mostly and sometimes low light indoor concerts. 800 dollar budget; looking on ebay.

they are both about the same, if you can get the XT significantly cheaper, go for it. Otherwise get the newer XTi.

First don't buy on ebay, second it really comes down to personal preference. Don't get hung up on the extra 2mp or the self cleaning sensor, it does have a few extra perks the XT doesnt but both are good camera's it just depends if you want to spend $150-200 more for the XTI. Got a great price on my XT at beachcamera.com I dont trust ebay all those "package deals" are junk.

if you dont plan on printing anthing larger than 13x19 than i would recommend the XT. the difference in mp doesnt matter. really the only features worth upgrading for is the larger screen size and the sensor cleaning.

save your money, get the XT...and use the extra money to get a nice lens for it. cuz the kit lens absolutly blows [major distortion, and lots of chromatic abberation].

It pretty much depends what you pay for the camera. I got an XT for cheap and I'm happy with it.

id have to agree. 20d ftw. ive seen a few at ~$700-800 at dealers with a limited gaurantee. the feel alone is worth the extra $$ [that and the thumb wheel].

I got an XT with a battery grip, 3 batts, sigma 70-300 lens, kit lens, 1gb CF card, winde angle adapter, and case for 500$ USED

If you can find a good deal on a used XT I'd take it over a new 20D since you will probably be better off with the extra money for lenses and CF cards.

  12. It's ok, xt and xti are still great cameras :dunno:

Being a beginner, I would recommend getting the XT to learn on. That should be more than enough camera for a beginner and it will leave you extra cash to get nicer lenses.

:werd: that's what I'm saying though, would I buy a 20D over an XT? Yes, if I was going to pay for a new one, but why buy new?

But if he can get the 20D to start out with, it will be better for him in the long run. After a month or so playing with the XT he will wish he got the 20D

I doubt he will outgrow the XT in a month or so but that's just my opinion.

He appears to be on a limited budget and between that and being a beginner, I would try to save as much of that budget as possible for good glass.

I don't think the XT is easy to get bored of. It's simple and does what you ask it to :dunno:

If theres no hurry to buy the camera, why not wait, save up, and get the better camera.

Edit: also i was exaggerating about a month

My XT has the automatic sensor cleaning option. You sure that's an XTi only feature?

I work at best buy in wireless (don't laugh- i still make 13 an hour ;) ) and i find myself going to the digital imaging department every day and learning as much as I can. I was thinking of using my small discount on the slr at work ( i get the xt for 620) and then getting the tamron 70-300 lense; a good flash, and a tripod.

IMHO I wouldn't pay 620 for an XT.

The XT doesn't have a self cleaning sensor. It has a function that locks up the mirror to enable access to clean the sensor.;)

I hope that includes the kit lens but at any rate, the XT can be bought for much less than that on the net.
