I can't seem to my XP to pull a new IP...I've done everything, reset the modem, reinstalled my XP, everything I can think of. The only computer in my house that can pull and get an IP is an older win 2000 computer that I can't even get into the settings to see the configuration.

I have my XP set to Autodetect everything. It's not a static IP addy...unless because we now have phone service thru RR also they give a static IP...just funky...

    Anyone?

I'm assuming this is a new computer on an old connection? If this is the case, you may have to register the MAC address of the new computer's network card with your ISP before you can get an IP from their DHCP server.

Explain why you say no. My ISP requires that I register the MAC address of whatever device I'm pulling and IP from before it'll give my an IP.

you need to use a router. People that don't use routers as at least a rudamentary form of protection really worry me.

Plus, most TW accounts only allow one DHCP lease at a time -- meaning your other computer is getting the IP, so this one can't.

A router solves all of these problems.

I had some sort of problem earlier this week. Don't know what happened but a tech friend of mine told me to go into bios, make sure all the lights are lit up on the keyboard, then hit Alt + E, then Alt + F and finally Alt + B. Worked.

disconnect the power cord and the cable connection on your cable modem. put the router back in the network, then set it to clone the MAC address of your 2k machine. wait a few minutes, then hook the cable modem back up and see if that doesn't take care of it.
