I just bought a laptop, and I bought this enclosure so I can add a DVD-RW from my old desktop

    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=282220&CatId=1204

I installed everything according the the directions, and changed the pins from Slave to Master on the back. It powers up fine, and windows detects it as an "Unknown USB Mass Storage Device". But in My Computer the drive isnt detected. Do I need to change something in the BIOS? It said no drivers are required and it should detect it automatically

What version of Windows are you running?

You can right click on My Computer and go to manage and then click on disc management to confirm that the device was given a drive letter.

You can also go into device manager to make sure there aren't any conflicts.

Is the master/slave jumper on the DVD-RW set according to the instructions for the case (usually set to master or Cable-Select/CS)

edit: also, dumb question, but you did plug in the external power for the case, right?
