Okay so yesterday my computer was working fine until i tryed booting it up today. After the usual POST check it didn't load up the "Windows XP" bootup screen but instead it gave me an error saying:
"Windows could not start because of an error in the software.
Please report this problem as :
    load needed DLLs for kernel.
Please contact your support person to report this problem."

What the hell!??! Since xp came out I never received an error like this and it won't let me get into the login screens !

I tryed putting a bootable XP cd in and went into the repair console but didn't know what to repair...

    Please someone help me.

    wtf?

not to sound like someone in the offtopic section but your OS sounds fucked. You probably can't get into safe mode huh? You can attempt to make the primary HD a slave and get to it that way to see what the problem is. That's a lot of work but you could at least get any data you wanted off the HDD. I don't think that's repairable without a clean install.

nope there is no way i can possibly get into windows. Looks like i have to format  I need to get some very vital data from "My documents" which i think it is something to do with the permissions things so only the user "Cheatz" can access it.

Also this hdd is NTFS. If anyone can show me the steps in retrieving my data from My documents please tell me.

I've never been able to retrieve My Docs after a reformat, the contents always got encrypted or otherwise fucked. :sad2:

    Get antoher HDD.
take old HDD out, put new one in.
    install windows.
    put old HDD as slave.
then you should be able to copy files off.

http://www.ntfs.com/ has some pretty cool tools for ntfs file systems too, such as NTFS Reader for DOS. (it's in the top right corner)

So I could do it with this current computer I am using now? This is also has ntfs... so if I install the fucked up O/S hdd into this one as slave, I could see "My Documents" that is a private folder on this computer?

And do i have do any other reconfiguring when I'm temporarily installing it on this hdd?
