I just re-installed Windows Xp Pro and as it was doing the automatic updates, one of them failed install and now it seems that every time I go to shut down my machine after i click on start>shutdown and then the other little screen pops up in the middle of your screen giving you the option of logging off, shutting down or restarting, it always says "install updated and shutdown" under the shutdown icon. Does anyone understand what I am trying to say here and can tell me how to fix this, it's kind of annoying. Thanks alot.

Did you let it install updates and shutdown? It will go away once those updates are installed.

I click on "install updates and shutdown" every single time I shut the machine down but it always comes back the next time I turn the computer on so its waiting for me when i go to shut down again.

you need to find out the update that it is and uninstall it.

i had this problem with a machine and it was like update 1546542654wa6s5d4 for .net 1.1

so i wiped out .net 1.1 all together and it stopped

Go through windowsupdate.com and install the updates. If it's something you don't want/need, you can uncheck it and have Windows not ask to install it again.

Thru Windows update on the web - it will tell you which update you currently don't have installed (the one it's trying to update when you shutdown).
