When I go to perform a full reinstallation of Windows xp on my computer it freezes each time it gets to the screen where it asks whether you want to repair or perform an installation. Any ideas? Am I screwed?

    Try a different CD-ROM drive?
    Clean the CD?
Maybe a different copy of XP, if you have one?

First off, are you working from a blank drive? If not, back-up and FDISK the thing (don't forget FDISK /MBR)
Next, how much ram are you running and what kind. You may want to reduce it to gain reliability for the install. You didn't post system specs, so I don't even know if this is possible. Make sure you have nothing plugged into the box other than monitor, mouse and KB. Anything else is a liability.

failing that, You could always use sysprep to start the process. It may skip right over the troubled section.
