When i try to login normally the computer freezes, i've gone into safe mode and tried creating new accounts and deleting the old ones but still got nothing. Its not my computer that's doing this and the person i'm trying to fix it for doesn't have any available restore points. Is there anyway to fix this without having to reinstall xp?

its probably some software or spyware that is trying to load and locking the system .. or it could be a device driver

    safe mode
goto start > run > type "msconfig"
goto the startup tab .. uncheck all unecessary program .. or better yet uncheck them all and reenable them one by one till you find the problem

and check all the shit that starts with windows, might be a program trying to start up that is causing the crash

i've had that same problem before. try logging on normally, and WAIT it out. about 10 to 15 minutes. if successful, restart computer normally and everything should be fine.
