Okay, so I need to find a xmas present for my dad.

Heres what we have to work around:

Needs to be fairly geared toward listening to music, not any heavy shit , but mainly classical. (guessing it needs a higher range/frequency of sound, forgot what its called? crossover?).

It still does need to serve its purpose as the vital component of a home theatre system, so I'm assuming a woofer can finish it up.

It needs to be 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1, so speaker wise and reciver wise I supose it should match.

    1080p compatible. Ipod compatible.

There is a friends and family day coming up at bestbuy, any recievers and speakers worth picking up there?

I would like to shoot for around 1000-1500 for the before discount price. Meaning it would probably end up somewhere around 1000.

Would it be wise to buy the reciever and maybe 2 floor standing speakers with good range first?

Cliffs: Bestbuy friends and family day coming up, any speakers/recievers there worth picking up? Needs to be used for home theatre and classical music. 1000-1500 dollar range before discount. 1000 or so after discount. Should I go with something at bestbuy or the markup so ridiculous the discount won't help?

I have a harmon kardon reciever and it sounds great and has all the features you want there. mine is the older version of this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8782702&type=product&id=1205245968852
and you can get an ipod dock for it for like $40.

then just get a nice set of speakers to go with it. Personally I have a set of sony speakers

    front:

    rear:

and then a sub of your choice

I know it's not an audiophile setup but from my experience it sounds pretty damn good. Honestly I can't turn it all the way up because it just it too loud.
