Having fooled around with some satellite radios, I've determined that I must have one. A lot of people are saying that Sirius is better than XM. What does OT think?

    XM is the best,

Its cheaper.. the units are smaller and it has more channels.

XM also has Opie and Anthony.

Sirius has about 600,000 subscribers.. XM has 2.5 million... that should tell you something.

I have XM in my car, the wife has Sirius. There are some channels that I like on Sirius that XM doesn't have, and vice versa. A lot of it depends on what kind of programming floats your boat. Personally I can't stand Stern (sorry) so that wouldn't sway me. I can say that Sirius is automated, so after a couple of hours you hear the same songs in the same sequences. And Sirius' "d.j.s" SUCK!

    cliffnotes- I prefer XM.

sirius is sinking 500 million into stern. what makes it worse is that they lost 1 billion in the last year. I know they have the NFL and other than those two options, there really isn't a difference between either of them. Personally I would get XM, I don't see a reason to pay more a month for stuff i'm not going to listen to.

That should tell you that about 75%+ of headunits only support XM. I think Kenwood and only a few other offbrands have Sirius support. Just coming out this year are some that support both (usually requires a seperate adapter, etc for sirius though). So, for most people you dont get a choice if you already own a headunit.

that would be a good answer if it were correct. The fact is that the reason xm has, and gains more subscribers is b/c it started by pumping a lot of money into pioneer, alpine, and sony to may xm units. Then they moved to pumping money into oem applications. Most every gm vehicle comes with XM radio now, and xm has a 78% retention rate one the complimentary subscription ends on those. The oem subscriptions are why they have managed to blow sirius out of the water.

eclipses choosing sirius means nothing.. I am an eclipser dealer and still sell customers xm commanders...

I dunno about you but every sirius customer i talk to is pissed because if you go under a bridge or anything you lose the signal.. If you pull ANY vehicle with sirius into my shop it loses the signal.. With XM it works all over

Dish Network is now broadcasting Sirius streams, with their packages. I have wanted Sirius for a long time, because their techno stations are great. But now I have it at home with that, so I really dont know if I want it for my car. For me it would be Sirius. A decision should be based on what you like to listen to.

agreed...I had xm and I like the content on Sirius better.

BTW the BIGGEST reason for the difference in subscribers is that XM came to market a year before Sirius so all of the early adopters ONLY had XM to choose from. If you ask most people they don't even know what they are asking for when they ask for XM. They are asking for satellite radio and know little of the differences between the two. Granted XM did a great job of establishing the market...kinda like kleenex...it is a brand name, but everyone knows what you are talking about.

the new xm antenna's kick butt, and are very small now. we did a xm commander in a z3, and it picked up in the shop better than before... as long as you did not stand infront of the antenna. :o
