Have any of you had your slide or controls either clear-coated or duracoated? My XD is still relatively new so I could clear-coat it, but I could get it duracoated in matte black so there's just a little contrast between frame and slide. What do you think? There's just so many choices I don't know what to do.:run:

i just got it a month ago. maybe the newer ones have a better finish and a clearcoat/duracoat isn't really necessary at all. :dunno: i know making sure it's clean and oiled after i use it every time is a good way to keep it from rusting, but i didn't know if anybody had this done just for some extra protection.

I'm definately going to send my slide in to be refinished in matte black duracoat. http://www.xd-hs2000.com does the complete slide for $45 which is very reasonable.

that's where i was thinking of sending mine. it says if your xd is new it can be clearcoated, but the matte black looks kinda good b/c it leaves a little contrast. i'm a fan of the all black look so the other duracoat colors are kinda meh. I need to get some sights installed by that guy too. all the people on xdtalk.com say he's awesome.

Is there info on what duracoat is? How long does it last etc. I havent had any problems. If it will increase durability I might consider.

he has a really fast turnaround time, I had him put on a set of Truglo TFOs on my xd9 sc and he did a great job and had the slide back to me in a couple of days

Why would you buy a pistol KNOWING that you're going to have to send parts of it off to get refinished? Why would you NOT send it to the manufacturer and bitch at them for making a defective product?

b/c you don't KNOW if you're going to have to have it refinished. a lot of people have never had any rust b/c they take care of their firearms, but some don't and end up with rust. clearcoating or duracoating it will just add some more protection.

Mine's stock. I've had it for a couple months now and there are no rust problems or anything. I've been thinking about getting it hard chromed, though. :naughty:
