Can anyone confirm if the XD's manufactured around 2005 had the rust issue? if so, what was the resolution? are people just dura-coating the slides? Or are they just forever prone to rust due to their material?

Get a tetanus shot and store the pistol in a vacuum. It'll be fine.

2006 solution was to treat it with Melonite, which is the same as Tennifer.

    The old finish was Lemonite.

IIRC springfield would refinish the firearm for free if it was a problem. Mine is older and has never had an issue with the original finish.

I had one when they first came out, I did have some rust issues. I sold the gun before Springfield offered to refinish them. The newer ones with melonite seem to be fine though.

So xd is a step down from the Glock 22??

You ever get the 'want' to just buy gun stuff...Maybe I need more ammo, less XD?

  8. I agree. The XD added needless complexity to a wonderfully designed simple system. Not that the XD is a bad pistol, but as a system increases in complexity so does the chance that something will fail.

  9. Thankfully they have the grip safety!

Picked 1k in .40 today in a private sale...the guy had his m&p 9 out...took a look at it, the trigger looked flimsy. The only complaint though is it may be too narrow for my grip (long fingers). My Glock 22 still seems the best fit...

:wtc: I'm debating on my first handgun and I keep bouncing back and forth between a Glock and an XD...and then I start going between if i want a Compact or a Subcompact. The only thing I've got down for the most part is that I'll most likely stick with 9mm.

But then again...I found some Rock Island 1911's for 300 that are pretty tempting too.

The 19's what I was thinking. I've shot the 17 and it was meh...I didn't care for the fullsize since this will eventually be a carry gun. Unfortunately I can't find any decent ones around me for sale. I found an XD9SC for 425 local so I'm pondering it. I haven't shot an XD though. I might be heading out to the range this week and see if they have either for me to try.
