What do barrel lugs do? I have a chip on the right side barrel lug (when facing the chamber entry) where it makes contact with cartridges. It seems to shoot straight but I'm sending it off to get warrantee work on it anyway.

They lug barrels so you don't have to.

The barrel lugs are what aligns & anchors the barrel with the frame and slide when the action is closed.

I'm a little confused about the "where it makes contact with cartridges" comment. No part of your barrel should "make contact with cartridges" aside from the feed ramp and chamber.

they keep the barrel in the proper position in relation to the frame of the gun. However I am with sprite, the only things that should touch a cartridge in a gun like that are the magazine, the chamber and the feed ramp (not counting things like firing pins and ejectors/extractors.)

Regardless of what exactly it is (a picture may help) getting warranty work is not a bad idea, after all it may be fine now, but many rounds down range later is may expand or create a point where a stress crack can form, better to take care of it now before it becomes a bigger problem that could be considered caused by abuse.

See the right side lug where it would be making a contact with the cartridge if it wasn't chipped.

Can you draw an arrow or something? I don't see what you're talking about.

See the T piece on the bottom of the barrel under the chamber and forward of the feed ramp? That is the lug. Your ammunition never comes near it.

i dont see anything wrong with that picture. if you send it off to SA and there is nothing wrong, they are not going to pay you back for your shipping.

if you are talking about area A, it is supposed to be like that
If you are talking about area B, that dosnt make a bit of difference. put some cold blue on it if it bothers you.

if it isnt A or B, I just dont see anything that could even be mistaken as broken.

Area A is definitely chipped, i found another picture of XD9 barrel and area A is intact (touching the cartridge like the left side lug). But if lug's purpose is to secure the barrel in place when the gun is out of battery then that shouldn't affect the performance of the gun.

Is this on a 3" model?

you are probably seeing pictures of the 4" or 5" barrel, where that spot does look a little different. ill take a pic of my 3" compared to my 4" for you.

No problem. I would hate to see you lose $30 or more on shipping because of it.

OT at its worst. We're supposed to be putting each other down and calling each other names... not helping each other.
