    Guys:

I'll be picking up an XD .45ACP later this month.

Right now I'm trying to decide between the normal 4" Service Model and the Compact 4".

    LINKS:

    XD Service Model 4" .45ACP

    XD Compact 4" .45ACP

At first I was just going to get the Service Model, but now I see that they offer the "compact" with a shortened grip, using 10 round mags instead of the 13 round mags. The compact can be converted to 13 round mags using grip extensions.

Does anyone here have an XD compact? I'm not intending to do CCW...yet...but do you think it would be worthwhile to get the compact w/ extensions? It would be sort of dual-purpose then, I think. The compact doesn't shorten the barrel at all, so the only thing being reduced in size is the grip.

Do you think this will have any significant CCW advantage over the Service Model? :dunno:

will adding the extension make the grip the same length as the non compact model?

I would go for the compact. I've got a xd sub compact 9mm and have no problems at all shooting with with the compact magazine. Without the pinky extender it kinda sucks though, I ordered the extension before I even shot the gun.

I had the XD40 Sub-compact and didn't like it. It just didn't feel right in my hands even with the extended mags. I traded it in for a G19 a few weeks back.

I say compact. I currently own an XD40 4" and I cut my grip down to SC size for better concealment. It's nice to have the flexability of (.40) 9+1 or 12+1

I have the compact and the service model and I prefer the service.

The compact is cool and all.. but the service just feels better built.

I stripped the spacer off my fullsize mag and gave it to the service. Theres no point in the extension. it rattles and that pisses me off

I really dont even see a need for the service model anymore. No offense, but why would someone even consider the service model, when you can just buy the compact and have either or, service/compact.:dunno:

.......btw, XD45 Compact is my next buy.

I also do not have any issues shooting my XDSC with the short mag on it. I just tuck my pinky underneath and I'm g2g.

I just bought 500 rounds of .45 so I'll be going to the range every week or 2 for a while just to keep the stuff flowing downrange on the regular. Let me know if you wanna go...

I have pretty big hands its fits fin with and without the mag extension

when I have the 10rd mag full load with 1 in the chamber it rattles but if I use the extension full loaded w/1in the chamber it doesnt

no pinch I paid 550 OTD, I could have shopped around and got it cheaper but I need a carry since I sold my other XD

I'd hit up a range day if I'm not working... let me know about it if it's open for me to invite myself. I've got about 1000 rnds burning a hole..

sure thing, man. I'm waaay west side though. I usually shoot at shooters world, but I'd be willin to try a different place if it wasn't too expensive. (I have a shooters world membership, so it's free for me there)
