Long story short, I have the option to buy an Xbox 360 Elite + 3 games or Apple TV for the same price. My main want from this is to play movies I have ripped to my computer on my TV and was set to get the Apple TV, however, the added bonus with the Xbox is the games (and one I can't wait to play once it comes out)

There used to be a program that allowed you to connect to the xbox using a Mac...don't remember the name, but it didn't work for me when I had my old xbox about 3-4 years ago. I've heard it works now...:dunno:

Is anyone doing this, and are there any limitations you can think of? All of my movies are ripped as .mp4 files using FFMPEG I believe. They're all around 700mb-1000mb each, no chapters, no subtitles, and ripped using Handbrake.

    Yep, that's it.

Looks like it will work just fine...any input from other people who have used it?

Good luck, I have tried it on several occasions on my MBP without any luck.

What were you having issues with? Not connecting? File formats?

I had problems with my G5, but I can't remember what they were...I also only had porn on my computer at that time so I didn't have much to test it with.

I paid for Connect 360, freaking love it.

You can also just plug an external into the 360 and play movies off that.

360 > * as a media player IMO. The only downfall is that it can't play .mkv HD files, BUT it can play Blu-Ray rips that are in .mp4 format, which most torrent sites have and you can also convert .mkv into .mp4 formats.

    And last.fm is nice too.

I could never get my xbox to see my MBP. I think one time out of the 3 or 4 separate times I tried I could get my MBP to see the xbox in connect 360 but I never got it working.

BUT now that I think about it somewhere along the line my xp server with windows media player quit being recognized by my xbox as well.
