is the xbox a progressive scan dvd player? also does anyone know what kind of audio decoder is it using? 5.1?

last question, is the optional dvd remote the only way to get the xbox to play back dvd's or is there alternative way?

    thanks guys :bigthumb:

No, but there's an HD decoder available, you can go up to 1080 interlaced with it. The whole reason I have an Xbox and not a PS2 anymore is the fact I can play my games in HD.

Probably (I don't know how you would go about doing that though)

i use a optical cable on my PS2, i would assume that the xbox had optical support as well.

It does. The problem is, I dont know if the hacked xbox software has a xvid/divx player that can decode the audio stream too.
