Been having this debate with someone lately.. Since google prefers that you either stick to having www. in front of your domain, or no www. .. which do you guys prefer? Also, what's the best way to make sure that your visitors only get your preferred method, even if accessing files in subdirectories, etc? I've got the .htaccess method in my root, it works for any files in root directory, but that's it. Is there any server-wide method of forcing a certain path? short of putting .htaccess files in every single folder.. Personally, i'm undecided which is better. Having the www. adds to the recognition for noobs that it's a website, but removing the www. for real-life business looks much cleaner and is easier spread on business cards etc due to it being shorter, especially for short domain names. On a side-note, i'm still dumbfounded at how many major websites just give an error if you don't type in their preferred method. I've seen major company's that if you use the www. it errors to their server setup page, other ones that if you don't use the www. it gives a server error or a 404. I had the idea of starting up a little business that "fixes" people's websites for them Just charge $50 each, and go around setting up the relevant diverts. No time though. Feel free to steal this idea and make your millions.
