My father has had this for some time and said that the next time I came down to visit that he would pass it along to me.

My grandfather, who served in WWII had brought this home. The story is that it belonged to another solider in the battalion who was messing around with it and fired it. The ricochet hit him and killed him. For some reason my grandfather ended up with it and brought it home to give to the soldiers family. The soldier's son called and asked if he could come get it but never showed. That was more than 20 years ago.

Any idea what this gun is worth? To me, it is priceless and something I would never sell. I guess it is more of a curiousity thing than anything else, which is why I asked about value.

I took it apart and cleaned it. It is in good shape for its age.

:eek3: Damn, that is nice. My grandfather tried to bring home some stuff from the war (a Mauser, a 1911, and a british army issue helmet), but they got confiscated. :wtc:

    That sucks...

My grandfather brought back a few Garands, his M1 Carbine, and also a Walther PPK that a German officer gave to my grandfather - original holster and all.

I got the carbine after he passed away. I am glad I got that, as it was his personal item. I wish I got the PPK, too though.

I have no plans to sell it. I was merely curious as to the value.

Taking this sucker apart was not too bad and somewhat similar to my old H&K. Though, it was not as easy as my Glocks. ;) I have not even looked, but do they make display cases for handguns? Perhaps I could have it mounted and displayed.

it's cursed. :noes: It killed your grandfathers friend. Then killed the son during his travel to the gun. Then it killed your grandfather. You're next. :noes:

Guess you'll just have to take it out back and shoot it.

Very nice, family member is holding onto a 1911 that belonged to my grandfather, I should make the effort to get it but its out of state and I'm in NY, haven't gotten around to doing the paperwork and getting it shipped to an FFL, yours is in much nicer condition though. Grandfathers needs refinish, alots worn off and some minor pitting and rust.

It's probably worth more considering its history. There are collectors who specifically look for firearms that have been used to kill people :dunno:

FYI it was manufactured in 1943 and the GHD stamped above the mag release are the initials for US Ordnance Inspector Lt. Col. Guy H. Drewry.
