"Other Marines pack boulders in their friends' backpacks before patrols, then try to suppress laughs as they watch their buddies struggle with the extra weight -- as if Marines weren't laden enough with body armor, weapons, ammunition and other gear."

totally retarded, lets make our buddy tired and less combat effective so we can laugh.

" And, during the ride to Iraq's western border for the Operation Matador offensive on insurgents in mid-May, one Marine from the 3rd Battalion dozed off, prompting the others to quietly put on their gas masks.

"Wake up! Gas attack!" they then screamed.

Their startled, gasping friend scrambled to throw on his own mask as the others burst into laughter. Three weeks later, some of them still chuckled at the memory."

i'd fucking beat the fuck out of someone if that happened to me

Reminds me of this time in Korea.

I was stationed at Camp Red Cloud with the 125th Sig Batt 2ID. And if anyone has been to Korea and specifically up north, you know that you are constantly reminded about the war kicking off at any minute. We kept our real ICE packs in our rooms ( Individual Chemical Equipment ). I used mine as back support to watch TV. Anyways on the 4th of July we all got up nice and early, took our ration cards to the shopette, and started a long day of drinking. I ended up passed out by 7 pm. A few hours later I was awakened by thunderous explosions that I thought were incoming rounds. So I grabbed my ICE pack, pro-mask, LBE, and headed down the hallway at full speed. I reached the end of the hallway and burst through the door expecting to see the rest of the Company waiting in line to get their weapons. Instead I ran into half of my Company having a BBQ and watching the fireworks show on base. :hs: I didn't live that down for a long time.

marines do this all the time regardless if it's in the rear, training or combat zones. we duct tape up people during the night and stuff them in the portapotty or we fuck with them during the night with air raid drills or what not.

the marine corps is just a frat. i thought all other branches did this.

And when a gas attack happens for real, you may laugh for a few seconds before you die.

The majority of people in this thread that think it's funny either haven't deployed to a real world crisis, or haven't left for basic yet.

I will apologize for the Marine Corps as a whole because unlike the Army who is completely cold and calculating and personalitiless... we are completely useless and unefficient.

And, I've been deployed to Baghdad and was helping in the Tsunami relief efforts and think both are funny.

And you may learn a cold, hard lesson by your own ignorance.

There's a time and place for everything. Yelling "GAS GAS GAS" in the warzone is not cool nor funny. Remember what happened to the boy who cried wolf.

We had a joker like that in FMSS/CREST training. It was hot outside and this asshole faked a heat injury. Then he popped to his feet and started laughing. I'm sure for the first few seconds before the advisor got ahold of him, he sincerely thought it was funny.

Just because I think it's funny doesn't mean i'd do it myself.

Anyone with common sense would never dick around while deployed in a warzone, especially when it comes to matters like this, and yes like you said there is a time and place for everything, however sitting here reading about it on the internet looking back and just picturing it, it's damn funny and some of the Marines on here agree.

Once I earn the title, i'm sure all of my views will change and i'll be all business all the time, but right now, I see no problem in laughing. Feel free to correct me.

BTW dark, where did you find these quotes?
