Could be bruising. I have right knee problems and I've seen two orthopedists. Both said there was nothing that wrong and it was maybe bruising. Shit kills me all the time

    Rest
    Ice after activity
    NSAIDs
    Don't do what hurts it

Also could be trigger point related; read the foam rolling thread.

You don't get an MRI for the asking anyways. They'll do an x-ray first.

Doctors (GPs at least) are largely worthless in my experience for knee pain. If it's something caused by muscle imbalances, trigger points or overuse they won't be able to diagnose it, you need someone more specialized.

My point is no one here has the credentials to tell him what is wrong with his knee, especially over the internet.

Go see a ortho doctor...theres a million reasons why your knee could be sore. I had a similar problem and it was a form of a iliotibial band syndrome

Im still not pain free but im about 80% better than what i was pain wise...I see a phyiscal therapist 2 days a week and they use something called the graston technique and stretch my leg out.. I have a foam roller at home and use it twice a day. Theres a sticky with foam roller techniques.

Try the foam roller...it will hurt but you should notice a difference in a few days

been through 3 knee surgeries 2 right 1 left. You may have some loose cartilage floating around in the knee. Did you experience any swelling?

I bike a lot, and my right knee has given me periodic trouble ever since I smacked it against the side of a Firebird on my way over its hood ten years ago. (sweet zombie jesus, it really was ten years ago, wasn't it?) Sometimes there's a pain just behind the kneecap, and other times it feel like the cartilage is going to explode out the back of my knee. Whenever either one of them happens, I just keep my knee locked while standing (for kneecap pain) or avoid fully-extending my legs (for capsule pain) and it goes away in a day or so.

Your body wears out as you get older, no avoiding it. "Don't do what makes it hurt" is the best advice out there. If you baby it and it doesn't get better in a week or two, then go do a doctor.

no swelling or anything. I've played long hours of basketball before and felt the same symptoms ..but it would always go away within a day or 2...:hsd:

dude I don't know. I'm about to see a third ortho. Both doctor's I've seen said nothing was that wrong and it was "old age". I'm fucking 23!

Sometimes it KILLS too. Like I can't go to sleep pain. It's constantly being exacerbated by my hobbies too- lifting and drumming
