    Just a rant...

I don't usually have the need to print anything with this laptop, but I do at this moment. So I plug the USB cable in, wait for Windows7 to tell me it doesn't have drivers (not surprised), and head to HP.com for drivers. I do have a decent cable connection so the download time isn't an issue - it's the principle. What sort of bloatware makes a printer driver weigh in at 370MB? How many fucking stupid toolbar/shitware programs am I going to have to uninstall after I get the damn thing... :ugh2:

:werd: Sometimes there's a smaller version without all the bells and whistles but a HP printer install is taking as long as a Windows 7 install these days.

I looked at the software results that HP provided for this printer, and this was the only driver listed. I didn't look elsewhere, however, so you could be correct.

If you extract it using Winrar or 7zip, you can get the driver from there.

You can cancel it near the end, and it'll still be faster. :x

Won't have their HP Scan Wizard though.

Uh, yeah, fatal error during installation. I'm attacking it with winrar now.

Can't agree anymore here. You probably need a single .ini file that is less than 1 MB :o

Did you try the generic printer driver that comes with windows? For a one-shot deal like this that is probably what I would have done, and it probably would have worked well enough.

most of the time the driver is like very small, and all the rest is the "productivity software suite!!!!!" shit they install along with it.

i hate when they bundle the software with the driver
i try to grab the raw driver or i'll have it extract and then grab the driver from the temp folder it extracts to

I plugged it in and let Windows do its thing, said it couldn't find a driver.

That's precisely it...why not give an option to get just the driver?

If I knew what printer it was I could help more but, downloading the ini if you have the rest of the software is the best option as posted above.

But the INI is just a plain text file, it is not the driver.

A driver is compiled code... a dynamic link library... Just downloading the INI would not be enough.
