I've been building PCs for over 10 years...and I've never seen anything like this happen to me. Anyone have any clues??? No bent pins on the chip or anything. Also made sure it was nice and flush.

was this a new pc build? or was it currently running. Iv seen plenty of cpus fry, but none of them melted onto the socket wow. Not really anything under there but traces. So obviously your cpu overheated or something like that

Any chance something like Artic silver or something conductive leaked in there?

This was with a new motherboard and a cpu that was from a previous machine. No idea if the CPU is still good now. Im afraid to throw it into another motherboard. Back to fry's for a swaparoooo...

What brand of board is this? ECS and PCChips boards have this problem a lot.

It would be a better idea to get an Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, or Chaintech.

I run Gigabyte and Chaintech boards for all my builds.
