I posted a WTB in yard sale, but i thought i might have better luck here. i just bought my first slr and would like a lens so i may get started... someone suggested a 50 mm 30/70 (i think?) i was wondering if anyone had a used one that they'd like to part with for a reasonable (cheap) price? :x: thanks!

my first lens beyond the kit lens was a 50mm f/1.8 which i've learned quite a bit from using. you can buy them brand new at a local store for like $80 and cheaper than that online.

I've got the nikon kit lens 18-55 FS. Probably the cheapest lens youre going to find. It takes great pictures too. I can post some taken with it if you want to see the quality.

it really depends on what you're going to be shooting.

if this is just a hobby or will be used to take general photos, get an all-in-one lens like the Sigma 18-200. Not the greatest lens out there but since you're obviously not going to sell or impress others, this range will be helpful for almost all situations. The Tamron version isn't bad either, but the build quality on the Sigma I think is better.

The Tamron 17-50 2.8 XR Di II LD lens is an awesome lens. Any site with reviews will tell you (by users as well) that its just about on par with the Canon L glass....

Just the focus motor is a bit noisy.. but who cares?? It takes great pics !!!

i was in your boat not too long ago...after weeks of reading up...i came down to few options, the Tamron 17-50 and the Sigma 18-50.

They are both around 400, but the sigma is a bit cheaper. I went with the Tamron based on overall reviews i found on the web.

I'm a relative beginner and I bought one recently. Captured some of my best shots with it so far. Like others mentioned, they can be had for under $100 almost anywhere.
