i'm in the market for a tv tuner with dvr support and if withing my budget of $120, HDTV support if possible. there are just too many out there...most pci, some external usb.

your suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated guys/gals! :x: :bigthumb:

DVR will be included with any TV Card now nowadays. Be it USB, PCI, or AGP... All of the HDTV cards such as the Hauppage PVR350 HDTV is gonna be much more than 120 more like $350... I have had an HTPC for a while now and any decent card will come with good PVR software or you could use Third Party like BeyondTV... Unless HDTV recording is a must wherein you will have to spend $350 or more on just the capture card.

aye, after some patrolling of the video card isle @ fry's here in dallas, i picked up this one:

    avermedia m179: http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner_M179.shtml

sadly the card is proving to be a pain in the ass with driver recognition and the composite video in and s-video in jacks are not taking taking kindly to my ps2 or svid inputs.

    big failure.

i'm back to square on till i go return this one, and possible go up to the following model:

    http://www.aver.com/products/tvtuner_UltraTV_PCI_350.shtml

or just say fuck it all and invest in an older ATI AIW unit.

any recommendations besided your mentioned Hauppage?

Dunno about Linux. I have'nt heard of anyone using one with any Linux box yet. Might try asking around on some of the A/V or HTPC forums. Maybe Howard Forums? or HTPCNews? They have a Linux HTPC Forum there...
