Just to preface, this isn't a serious medical problem or anything. I don't have serious wrist problems and this only happens when working out.

When I do curls, especially with dumbbells, I often get this shooting pain down the side of my right wrist down to my pinky. It happens the most at the top of the curl and when I keep my palms facing me. The only way I really do them now is with a hammer curl motion, but that doesn't target the biceps nearly as well.

Has anyone else had problems with this before? Any suggestions?

Does it feel like the pain is in your bone?

Nah, not in the bone, like a jolt that goes up the side of my hand from my wrist. It makes me almost want to drop the dumbbell when it happens. When it starts, that's when i go home for the day :hs:

Do you do wrist curls at all? I used to have pain in my wrists, generally, but since starting to do more wrist curl exercises, it's gone away completely. Might help.

I've been having problems with my left wrist lately basically I can't rotate my thumb outwards all the way. For curls I have to do hammer curls or ez curl bar only.

Nope, never do. Maybe I should? Doing cuban rotations has gotten rid of my shoulder probs, so maybe that's a good idea.

I do a lot of cleans and clean-grip front squats, though occasionally those can bother my wrists as well (i switch to snatches if they do).

I'd give it a shot. Just use a 45 lb bar and do wrist rollers. Don't kill yourself with them, but do them regularly. I bet it helps at least a little over the next few weeks. Give it time.

Let me know if it helps.

Alternatively, let me know if your hand falls off.

Yeah, if my wrist explodes I'll report that too (though my typing might be a bit slower).

    Yep.

All of that pain will go away (atleast for me) if you do lighter weight with more reps...

It will take 2-3 months of solid lifting for it to go away, but eventually it does.

You will be supprised how fast you will gain muscle too once the pain is gone.

Sounds like one or many small stress fractures in your arm.
