I run a file server at work, and it's running SSH for remote administration (since I'm not in the office all the time). I fairly routinely go through the logs and see if anyone's been trying to bruteforce it, and often there has been an attack, in which case I send an email to the administrator of the IP the attack came from explaining the situation and including a log of the attempted logins.

Today, for the first time, I actually had someone reply to one of my emails:
Needless to say, I'm very very impressed that someone actually paid attention to my email and took action to stop the problem. Makes the time I spend checking for attacks now and then seem far more worthwhile.

If I ever have a chance to buy something from Osaka Gas Information System Research Institute Co. Ltd. :)rofl: at the Engrish name, BTW), I certainly will :bigthumb:

I usually send off an email if something strange is found. Only the College of Eastern Utah had ever responded.

Save a few, all of my attacks have come from Asia, mostly Korea and Japan. Of course, the attacker may not be there, but they're bouncing it off a server there anyway.
