 to tell you the truth, I hadn't even realized it until I got a message from a girl from the program I've been hanging out with. I guess today, it will officially be dating! :wiggle:

I really can't believe it's been a year. :big grin:

    cool, congrats!
My year was last week, it is still weird to me that it has been that long.

why is today that you will officially be dating? did you want to be recovering for a year first?
I don't think i could ever have that kind of self control...

Well, my sponsor, and a lot of people in my intergroup suggest strongly that you don't have any relationships in the first year.....mainly dating people in the program.

I've had a few dates, and plenty of sex, but nothing committed.

Keep up on it man, you'll start putting more and more time together. Surround yourself with sober people and you'll be fine.

Fuck, this is awesome! One fucking year  never ever thought I'd make it.

 funny I actually came here tonight to see that....

I went to a meeting tonight, and the chair said:

"If you listen to only one thing that I have to say, listen to this: DON'T MAKE ANY MAJOR CHANGES IN YOUR FIRST YEAR. I got married in the first year and it sucked."

I guess he was divorced about 1.5 years after the wedding.

The way my sponsor put it to me: During your first year, you have to focus on your recovery. Any major changes, especially relationships can sidetrack you before you've built a strong foundation. He went on to tell me that during your first year you don't have much to offer, you're still a sick fuck and you have to address some shit first.

I don't know what your life is like, and like everyone always says...these are just suggestions. You have to apply things in your life that work for you. I took the advice of my peers because many people who had 20+ years told me that it would be a good idea not to get into any new relationships. I tend to listen to the guys with a lot of sobriety.

It really wasn't that big of a deal to me, I put my sobriety first, and so far it seems to work well.

yeah, it makes sense and is probably great advice.

In my first year, I have changed jobs and moved to another city too. I am definitely not a AA posterboy I guess. lol

 it's all good though. You do what you need to do. If it's working, then great!

    good job, keep it up.

Selfpollution = Nobody is an AA posterboy, that's what makes the program great. Work your program, not someone else's.
