I've done it numerous times, just to try out different classes. I know friends that have done it for powerleveling.

None that I know have ever been banned or even warned.

I figure the only way I would even get banned is if I was blabbing about it and got reported?

Blatantly false. As a multiboxer who plays 5 accounts and hangs out on the dual-boxing.com site which is filled with multiboxers, there are many that have been banned for using multiple accounts when 1 or more account was not explicitly in their name.

Contrary to popular belief if someone makes a petition, or they notice weird activity and think you're playing 2 characters at once, and they're on accounts with separate names, they will most likely ban you.

As I said, I've seen this happen numerous times, and not just with people playing 5 accounts, as little as 2.

I've shared accounts with 3 people at a time and have never had an issue. All were used for power leveling/multi boxing.

Luck of the draw I guess.

Yeah, not saying it will happen all the time to everyone, but it is a strong risk, its up to the OP whether he wants to risk getting both accounts banned or not.

do they actively investigate stuff like this though? Or do I need to be reported?

They actively investigate, though it may not be so detectable depending on how you do it... its more obvious if you're using a program that replicates all your keypresses exactly, then if you say just stand somewhere with one character while owning everything with the other one.

Once they have a suspicion though its fairly easy for them to determine if one person is playing both characters, and if the accounts are in separate names or not. In the grand scheme of things you're probably safe, but there is always a chance you could be perma banned, and personally I wouldn't risk that to level faster.

they ban ppl for account sharing especially in the case of people paying for pvp titles like gladiator and stuff. or pvp items that require high rating, like shoulders/weapon , etc.

They don't give a flying fuck about it UNTIL your account gets hacked and they need to restore it. If they check and see lots of different IPs, THEN and only then will you be banned.

Even if somebody says oh so and so is powerleveling themselves, they don't care.

That's because they're paying for a service in which case the person is a fucking idiot

People just sharing a few accounts isn't a problem until somebody gets hacked, and I don't even know if they still care about that or not.

This is coming from dating somebody for 3 years who worked as the guy who did resorations on hacked accounts (edit: he doesn't anymore which is the only reason I'm saying this. They MAY very well have also changed the policies and I **could** be wrong but I asked him this just now and that's what he said). He told me that they basically investigate every compromised account to see if they were sharing with somebody else first. They have to run the IPs because when people get hacked it's generally by some chinese farming company. They also have already been sharing an account sometimes, in which case they are banned once this becomes known.

They may have changed their policies but from what he says, that's how it goes. If they, for whatever reason, check which IPs have logged onto your account and when, and account sharing is apparent (for the reasons of buying poweleveling, or WHATEVER) they will ban you. Sometimes permaban. So if you do account share and you get hacked, you've gotta just suck it up or face losing more than you already did.

Why is account sharing such a big deal for Blizzard ahtnamas? Mind asking him for me?

And will they check what IPs have logged on my account for no reason? do I need to be reported?

What do you mean why is account sharing such a big deal? It costs Blizzard money.

why is that person an idiot?

they want title/item, but not good enough to attain it themselves, so they pay someone else to get it for them :dunno:

    im fully aware of that,

sale of arena ratings thru account sharing is fairly common, ppl aren't caught that much from what i've noticed :o

of course it's a known risk that goes into sharing accounts or whatever, i just dont think someone is an idiot if they know the risk involved and are prepared to suffer the consequences :hs:

Because they'd have to be stupid to not realize that they're giving their account to a farmer who is going to come back later and use their username/password/information to gain access to their account, shard their shit, and lock them out temporarily.

Even if you can get your account back in the long term, they can lock you out for a few hours, enough time to empty your gbank and regular bank, sell all your shit, and jack all your money.

They MAY, MAY initially provide the service, MAYBE. But they're always going to turn around and at least attempt to hack it later.

Plus, WoW is one of the easiest fucking MMOs ever. If somebody really needs help getting a title or levels in this game, they probably shouldn't be playing it. It's not like High Warlord or something with really did take unreasonable amounts of time. It's all pretty damn easy these days.

    a) It costs them money. Money = everything.

    b) Accounts being shared = accounts being compromised. Accounts being compromised = higher queues for GMs and specialists. Higher queues = more overtime, longer lines waiting for tickets, less people satisfied, more people complaining, and overall costs more money.

It all comes down to $$$.
