would you take a job with a wedding photographer as a 2nd shooter if you feel you already "out shoot" her, just for the experience? This lady my step sister works with does wedding photography part time, and evidentally she gets a steady flow of jobs... I've seen her work, and it's ok I guess, but my step sister said she could hook me up to work some weddings with her....

Just for networking purposes alone, but make sure to lay down an agreement, that Your pictures are yours...

Yes. When she sees your quality of work you can propose a partnership, reap the benefits of her network and marketing. Propose a 30/70 split to start off, and as you get enough work to put your own money into the business 40/60, and 50/50 on jobs that YOU book might start looking more realistic.

Of course. You're better than her, so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

She's willing to open up her business to a better shooter than herself, again, great for you, less great for her.

You can network and learn the business side, all on someone else's dime.

    What's not to like??

  10. There's always alot to learn when you're not out doing your own thing, I shoot with 2 wedding photog's, (1 guy is way better than me and anyone on OT, and the other guy is horrible but he markets himself alot and books weddings and relies a little on my work to keep him from getting killed by bridezillas) And just started up a second shooter job with www.clairpruett.com. Already had my 2nd, second shooter training class. Shit's pretty sweet. :coold:

    can never learn enough! :bigthumb:

That's exactly what I meant. This guy is into it to make money. He already has better shooting chops than her.

He now gets to learn the business side, on her dime. 5 years from now, it'll be him throwing some scraps her way instead.

That is what I am doing - I am 2nd photog with a friend of mine...My work has gotten much better, and I think many of my pictures are better than the lead...I need to figure out more of the business side, so I can become a lead and make more money. I have shot 5 weddings so far as an "assistant" I pretty much have free liberty of what I want too shoot, and creatitivity with my photos too. :big grin:

read a book on business and put her out of business...if you think you can handle the glorious life of a full time wedding photographer.
