I'm thinking about giving my mom my Hi-Point 995 to hang on to, for home protection.

She knows how to shoot, and has shot clay pigeons with me before. Now that I own AK's and stuff, I rarely shoot the 995, since AK ammo and 9mm is roughly the same.

The one thing I don't like is her shady boyfriend, but I think I want her to have it in case he wigs out on her or something. I'll just make sure she knows to not tell him about it.

Would you trust your mom with this kind of gun?

i dont see why not if she knows how to shoot, and is a responsible gun owner.

cant tell you from personal experience though, mine hates guns.

I was gonna give her my bersa, but backed out. At the time, her skeevy boyfriend kinda made me think twice. Now he's really starting to act weird. My sister says he'll call and if its her (my sister) just hang up.

I'm gonna probably have her meet me at the gun range this weekend, and give her a quick breakdown on how to shoot it.

Gave her a call, she's gonna come out and go to the range with me on saturday or sunday. Haven't spent some time with her in a while.

I'll give her the 995, and take her to walmart and show her what kind of ammo it needs. Give her a cleaning kit and stuff for it too, because she mentioned one of her friends at work likes to go to the range and she wants to go with him.

If she was keeping company with someone I didn't trust, I would just encourage her to buy her own gun. And keep better company.

I'd trust my mom with anything in my (limited) arsenal, but she is pretty damned anti-gun

No...We shot clay pigeons with a shotgun.

But a long gun is a long gun. You know how to use one, you can use another.

She's broke. No health insurance and just had to go through a bunch of medical stuff because of a spider bite.

Her work offers insurance, but no one gets it because its too big of a cut. Something like 20% for my mom and sister, out of my moms paycheck. Its bullshit. I used to work there and the owners were a lot cooler. Now the guys wife is taking over and seems like everyone is getting treated like shit.

Here, too. This sort of thing REALLY depends on the mom in question.
