How many of you would have joined the military knowing everything you know now? Has your military experience had a positive/negative impact on your life? Please share.

I definitely would have done things differently, although I am perfectly happy with how things have actually turned out.

I wouldn't have wasted so much time on active duty. If I would have stood up for myself, I could have gotten a lot farther.

I just seem to have things I regret not doing..

I am getting out in August and my future is not solid right now.

My time on active duty has been pretty good. Even though I am completely tired of being in Europe, I have done a lot of traveling, made E-5 (which was my goal during my first enlistment), and I am set up for success in multiple directions.

This is the question I asked a lot of people that ultimately made me decide to enter the military. Some people would have stayed in longer, picked a different job, gotten out sooner, but practically nobody wouldn't have joined if given the choice again looking back. Hard to find a decision that practically nobody regrets making.

-Currently contemplating staying in or not when my time is up in a year

Many times I have regretted not staying in until retirement. Usually I think about it when I meet a coworker that is getting retirement pay/benefits while working on their second career.

I would have chosen 11b as my mos and only enlisted for 2 years instead of 4.

I would have taken more college courses while in. I earned only 36 credits in my 3.5 years. I think I could have earned at least 50 if i really buckled down.

I'd do it again. I'd only change a few minor things.

Well, you did well. 12 Units(credits) is full time semester here in California. 99% of the people (that I worked with) never took advantage of the tuition assistance.

still in. 0311. hard life, but no regrets. Everything happens for a reason, I believe. Currently doing islc. Once that's finished going to concentrate on taking obtaining my bs before I get out. I won't do this as a career, but I'm going to do my best while im in. Awhile back tehkingovener said something that still sticks in my head oddly enough, "it is what you make of it"

I would have done my MCIs earlier while I was a Lance. Other than that not much I would change and I'd definitely do it all over again. I've had a blast so far. Hope my second enlistment is as fun as my first one was.

I'd do it again no doubt. Would have changed a handful of things, but I don't regret where I'm at now.
