I would like to throw my M9-A1 into my carry rotation. I however cannot bear to part with the trap sights.

Night sights are only visible in such low low lighting that I don't think I would worry about.

in most situations that would require you to pull it, you don't use the sights anyways. Point shooting.
Some of mine have them, some don't.

Nights sights are of limited usage. For instance they don't work well with flashlights. Ideally I most prefer a flashlight and a fiber optic front sight.

In a no light situation, nights sights work well but you got to wonder about target identification.

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: Lighting changes dynamically as you, your target, or your target area moves. If you are considering your gun a weapon, you are seriously handicapping its use by not having self illuminating sights on it. The adage of "if it's too dark to see your sights, it's too dark to ID a target" does not encompass an experience-borne awareness of a gunfight.

Just because you have a flashlight, does not mean you may find it advisable to use it. Just because you find yourself and your sights in total darkness does not mean your potential target/area is not illuminated by some other ambient light source.

The only guy I know of who doesn't feel they're required on fighting gun could outshoot anyone here with his eyes closed and two broken arms and gets to use dual tube NVG's when his mom lets him stay out after the streetlights come on.

Ninja. He shoots with his toes and ID's his targets by echolocation.

I shoot a lot of night matches. Low light/no light matches. There are lots of cops at these matches too. There is no arguing that night sights have their uses. If you don't have a flashlight then they are very useful.

If you have a flashlight the night sights work against you as they bloom really badly. This I know from experience.

What it comes down to if you want to give yourself the best chance in a low light no light situation, carry a damn flashlight.

I pretty much walk with the flashlight in my hand anytime I'm outside and it's really damn dark. If I need to go for the gun the flashlight is already in hand.

Not a real deal breaker for me. I figure if I can't see my sights, I won't be able to see what the fuck I'm shooting at. I also can't remember the last time I was in a place that was so dark that I would not have been able to see my sights.

My carry gun doesn't have them.

Honestly most self defense situations I have read involved drawing and firing without even bringing the gun up to eye level.

One of the things I pay attention to when looking at pistols is how they naturally point in my hand. For target shooting you have to use the sights, but I can hit a man sized target naturally. This is the main reason I cannot shoot glocks well. I have to force my grip down to match the sights up.

Bingo. having a gun that points naturally is a bigger issue than having the night sights if it's a self defense weapon.

Oh, and that's the single reason I dislike Glocks personally too. The grip angle is just too much. They don't point naturally for me.
