i've been thinking about a truck/SUV for poor weather/beat around. The Corrado just doesn't hang well in the snow and ice. :hs:

Trying to keep it under $12k or so. Not seriously shopping yet, so that's just an ideal price range.
    AWD or 4WD
    Auto
Less needy than the G60 (that can't be asking much. :o )
Decent gas mileage would be a plus, but anything over 18mpg would be good enough. Don't need a powerhouse, but don't want a weakling either.

i was looking at 4runners, and they're really nice, but i'm having a hard time with the idea of going over the wrong ocean. Coolies, is my order really too tall for a Euro to fill?

What he said. Looks pretty clean and I hear they are great cars. Yea, a little pricey to maintain but so is anything worth having.

friend of mine is still driving his 88 or 89 range. bloody nice toy. cant really say much on them in general, but that particular vehicle is doing just nicely. hes using it to go hunting etc. never had any major issues.

Yep, pretty cool vehicle I think, as long as you don't mind the maintainance costs. If you want something that's cheap to maintain look at a newer Nissan Pathfinder, even the '01's on eBay seem to be going for less than 12k. We have one, and it's a great vehicle, plenty of power and nice and comfortable.

    Ford Explorer?

I know they're really cheap. I don't know about the reliability, but it has to be better then Land Rover, once you get the Firestones changed. The Eddie Bauer edition has decent interiors.

It's ture. I am not sure about today's offerings though. Mine is a 93 and I've had 2k in work done, but its running great now. My dad has a 97 960 which he puts 100k miles on every week and its running awesome. My mom's 98 S90 needed a speedometer replaced and then another part in conjunction with the speedometer. Not inexpensive though, but nothing major with those two.

Heh, we call them Exploders around here, but they're not quite as unreliable as that name suggests.

I know 2 guys who own older Land Rover. Their pretty decent but I haven't seen any that were in such great shape as the one on ebay looks to be.
