A&P would i be stupid to get rid of my 24-70L and get a 50L instead?

i want to get back into using primes mainly, but i want to get something that is very versatile

    i have a 17-35L for wideangle stuff
and i have a 100 f2 as well, which i would probably get rid of if i got the 50L

or maybe i should get rid of the 17-35 and 100 f2, keep the 24-70 and get a 50L as well :noes:

has anyone done this, or the reverse and have any regrets?

well i was stuck with nothing between 16 and 55 except for a 35 and 50 prime. i wanted to kill myself

tamron 17-50 saved me from shooting up a place. primes have their place but a zoom is so damn nice

You could just give me the 17-35L and you wouldn't have to worry about it anymore :eek3:

    Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.13918/2502; U; en) Presto/2.2.0)

I don't own a mid range zoom right now and don't miss it at all. There is a gap between 40 and 85mm in my lenses and it doesn't bother me.

Why not an 85L instead of the 50?

I sold my midrange zoom and got the 85 1.4 since I already had a 50 1.4, and I don't regret it. :dunno:

I'll trade you straight up for your 24-70 with my 50 1.8. Straight up trade! It's a prime lens!

Are you on a FF? If so, the 50mm wouldn't be so bad.

And I just creamed myself looking at that picture of all those L-primes.

I had a 28-70. Whenever I used it I always found myself either at 28 or 70. So I sold it and bought myself a 17-35 and a 70-200. Now I find that I miss the versatility of being able to go from wide to mild tele with out changing lenses. One benefit of the mid range zoom that is often overlooked is close focusing. Both my 85mm and 70-200 have long minimum focus distance. My 28-70 was practically capable of focusing inches away from the lens. This ability can have some advantages in some situations.

I have a nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It is my most used lens. It is quite a bit sharper than my 50 1.4 AF-S.

    I'm going to try the Canon 50 1.4 and 28 1.8 (combined $800)
If those don't meet my quality demands i'll bite the bullet and go L :wtc:

More than you can afford pal, Canon L.

    24mm: $1600
    35mm: $1300
    50mm: $1400
    85mm: $1900
    135mm: $900
    (bhphoto.com)

So $7,000, give or take a few hundred. :o
