I keep getting the "hold power to restart" sign. Would this be caused by possibly a bad hard drive? I've reformatted and no help. Sometimes the computer will just completely lock up.

    Computer is a 17" PowerBook G4 1.33 w/ 1GB of Ram

Possibly. If the system is trying to load in a virtual memory swap file or other essential system file and it fails, that would likely cause one.
